A high-profile company, Acclaim is a popular developer of gory fighting and arcade games. Although more famous on the console systems, some PC ports of Acclaim's games are excellent, e.g. the Mortal Kombat series. The company also published a number of underrated action games, many of them based on the Mortal Kombat engine. In September 2004, the company files for bankruptcy and since ceased operations.
